Glucans
Glucans are polysaccharide molecules composed of many repeating glucose units. These molecules are important, widely distributed components of dietary fibre and cell walls of bacteria, fungi, higher plants, and insects. Glucans are known to have many beneficial health effects, including improved glucose metabolism, enhanced immune response, improved insulin sensitivity, and decreased cholesterol levels. Glucans are commonly found in whole grains, fruits and vegetables, such as oats, peas, and potatoes. Supplementation of glucans has been found to have potential benefits in fighting obesity, diabetes, and cancer. Additionally, glucans have been studied for their benefits in wound healing, antiviral activity, and inhibition of certain pathogens.
