Elongation Factors
Elongation Factors are proteins that help in the process of protein synthesis (called translation) in a cell. They help ribosomes assemble the correct amino acids into a polypeptide chain. Elongation Factors bind to the ribosome and help make sure the polypeptide chain is translated correctly. Without Elongation Factors, protein synthesis would be much slower and inaccurate. They are essential for the proper functioning of the ribosome and are thus essential for all living organisms. Elongation Factors have been found to be involved in a wide variety of cellular processes, including cell proliferation and differentiation, cell cycle regulation, and signal transduction. Additionally, Elongation Factors are currently being investigated as potential targets for the development of cancer therapeutics.
