Transient Transfection Assay

Transient transfection assays are in vitro techniques used to measure the expression of a gene product of interest by introducing exogenous genetic material into a cell. The transient transfection assay provides an effective way to analyze the expression of genes with a specific promoter, or to investigate the effects of a mutation or gene manipulation on the expression of a gene. This is an important tool in studying gene function, and its utility spans a wide range of applications in cell biology, biochemistry, and genetics. The transient transfection assay is also used for drug screening and for target validation in clinical studies.
