Schistosomiasis

Schistosomiasis is an infectious disease caused by parasitic worms. It is a major health problem in tropical and subtropical areas, particularly in parts of Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia. Symptoms of schistosomiasis can range from mild to severe, including fever, malaise, rash, and abdominal pain. Over time, the infection can lead to organ damage and even death. Treatment involves medication to kill the parasites, better sanitation and access to clean water, and preventive measures such as insect repellent. Schistosomiasis is a preventable and treatable condition, and if detected early, it can be managed if proper medical attention and follow-up care are provided.
