Haploinsufficiency
Haploinsufficiency is a genetic phenomenon in which the expression of a gene is decreased due to the deletion or mutation of one or other alleles. This decrease of gene expression can result in various medical conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disorders. Haploinsufficiency has been used to identify the genes involved in these diseases and is a fundamental tool for identifying and understanding the mechanisms underlying the phenotypes of many diseases. In addition, it can be helpful for the development of new therapeutic strategies for disease treatment.
