Genetics and Genomics Genomics
and genetics are branches of science that study the structure of genes, the process of genetic inheritance, and the ways in which genes and the environment interact to influence an organism's characteristics. Genomics and genetics are intertwined disciplines that allow us to better understand the makeup of an organism and its traits. Genomics is the branch of science that deals with understanding the structure and function of genes, while genetics is the branch of science focused on the process of inheritance and how the environment has an influence on an organism's characteristics. With this knowledge, we can better understand how diseases can be prevented or treated, how to improve crop yields, and even how to create new organisms through genetic engineering. Over the past century, tremendous progress has been made in these fields, leading to advances in healthcare, agriculture, and other industries.
