Exon Mapping

Exon mapping is a process by which scientists can identify, or ‘map,’ the locations of exons of a gene within the human genome. Exons are the coding regions of a gene that are responsible for the production of proteins, and hence the functioning of the gene. Through the process of exon mapping, scientists can study how mutations within the exons affect the proteins being produced and the associated health implications that these mutations have. This process can also aid in developing targeted treatments for genetic disorders and diseases, helping to improve the prognosis of many patients.
