Cleft Palate
Cleft palate is a congenital birth defect where the roof of the mouth, known as the palate, has not grown fully together. This can cause a wide range of difficulties, from speech impediments to difficulty eating solid foods. Treatment for a cleft palate usually involves reconstructive surgery, which is effective in correcting the problem. Cleft palate can have other significant effects too, such as social stigma and difficulties with self-esteem. Early diagnosis and treatment are important in order to minimize the symptoms and effects of the condition.
