Rice Blast Fungus
Rice Blast Fungus is a destructive pathogen that can cause devastating losses in rice fields around the world. The fungus is responsible for the disease known as Rice Blast, a major cause of crop failure in many parts of Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The fungus has a wide range of hosts, including other cereal crops such as maize and wheat, as well as some grasses, making it a serious threat to food security. In the last decade, the disease has become increasingly difficult to control using traditional means such as chemical fungicides, making effective and sustainable management of Rice Blast essential for food security. Research into pest management techniques such as resistant varieties, disease detection and monitoring, and integrated pest management strategies is therefore critical for mitigating the impact of Rice Blast on food production.
