Paracoccidioides Brasiliensis
Paracoccidioides brasiliensis is a dimorphic fungus, meaning it changes form depending on its environment. This fungus can cause Paracoccidioidomycosis, a systemic mycosis consisting of acute to chronic granulomatous lesions in humans, commonly found in Latin America. Symptoms of this disease include fever, malaise, weight-loss, headaches, and coughs. Treatments involve long-term antifungal medications. Knowing the importance of this fungus could help to reduce the incidence of this serious chronic infectious disease.
