Mycelium

(fungi) Mycelium is the main part of a fungus, being a mass of branching, thread-like hyphae. Mycelium has a wide range of uses, from being a food source and providing nutrients for humans and other organisms, to helping to decompose organic matter. Mycelium also plays an important role in the soil, contributing to soil structure, fertility and nutrient cycling. It is also believed to help protect plants from pathogens and pests. Additionally, the mycelial structure makes it ideal for use in bioremediation, aiding in the purification of contaminated water and soil. Mycelium is a vital part of the natural environment and its various uses have been exploited by humans for centuries.
