Medical Mycology
Medical Mycology is the study of fungi and their related disorders. It encompasses diagnosis, control and treatment of fungal infections, especially those caused by potentially pathogenic species. These infections can range from mild to severe and life threatening, and can affect many different organs and body systems. Mycology research has contributed significantly to the understanding of the biology, ecology, and epidemiology of fungal infections, and to the development of new treatments and prevention strategies. It is also an important tool for diagnosing, preventing, and controlling fungal-related public health issues such as food contamination and allergies.
