Cocos
nucifera Cocos nucifera (also commonly known as the coconut palm) is a species of palm tree with a single straight trunk that is native to tropical regions of Asia, Africa, and the Pacific Ocean. This species is grown for its edible fruits which are known for their high oil and protein content, making them a valuable source of nutrition. The oil extracted from the fruit is used for cooking and cosmetics. The fibrous husks are used to make mats and baskets, while the woody trunks are used to make fences, furniture, and other crafts. In addition, this species has immense economic, cultural, and ecological significance as it provides food, drinks, medicines, and other products to many island populations around the world.
