Acremonium

Acremonium is a genus of microorganisms belonging to the fungal group called Deuteromycetes. It is a soil-inhabiting group of fungi with worldwide distribution. Acremonium species are important organisms in the environment, as they participate in the breakdown of organic matter, thereby recycling nutrients and minerals for other organisms. These fungi can also be beneficial as bio-control agents for controlling certain plant pathogens. In addition, some Acremonium spp. are known to produce a variety of compounds with potential applications in agriculture, industry, and medicine. Furthermore, Acremonium species have been studied for their ability to produce biopesticides, bioremediation agents, as well as enzymes which have biotechnological applications.
