Vibrio Vulnificus

Vibrio Vulnificus is a naturally occurring bacterium in warm coastal salt water, which is a leading cause of foodborne illness in humans. V. vulnificus can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramping, as well as more severe infections such as sepsis and primary Vibrio vulnificus septicemia. In individuals with weakened immune systems, V. vulnificus infections can be life-threatening. V. vulnificus can also result in skin and soft tissue infections when handling seafood or eating raw or undercooked contaminated seafood. Proper hygiene and cooking methods, preventing cross-contamination, and avoiding contact with salt water can help reduce the risk of a V. vulnificus infection.
