Monoculture Cropping

Monoculture cropping is the practice of growing a single crop species, variety, or cultivar on a large area of land over a long period of time. Monoculture is widely used in conventional farming due to its efficiency and economic benefits. It is beneficial for farmers because it reduces the amount of labor required, as well as the cost of inputs such as fertilizer and pesticides. However, monoculture cropping has long-term negative environmental consequences, such as reduced soil fertility, increased pest and disease pressure, and reduced biodiversity. To minimize these impacts, farmers should rotate their crops and use other sustainable farming practices. This will improve soil fertility, reduce pest and disease pressure, and promote higher levels of biodiversity.
