Diet and Type 2 Diabetes
Type 2 diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder in which the body is unable to effectively use and store sugar, leading to an accumulation of blood sugar. Diet plays an important role in the management of type 2 diabetes. Eating a diet that is rich in whole grains, lean proteins, fruits and vegetables, and reducing added sugars and saturated fats can help reduce the risk for developing diabetes. Additionally, including regular physical activity and avoiding the consumption of high-calorie, processed foods may assist in better controlling diabetes and its related symptoms. Eating habits and dietary changes are essential in managing type 2 diabetes, as well as taking prescribed medications, if necessary.
