Clonorchis

Clonorchis is a genus of parasitic flatworms that cause the human liver disease clonorchiasis. It is spread by the ingestion of certain kinds of raw or undercooked fish. Symptoms include fever, abdominal pain, and jaundice. If left untreated, the disease can cause permanent liver damage. Clonorchis is an important public health issue in many parts of the world, particularly in East and Southeast Asia. While there are medications to treat clonorchiasis, prevention is most effective. This includes eating only fully cooked fish, as well as washing hands and utensils carefully before and after handling raw foods. Awareness about the risks associated with eating undercooked fish is also important.
