Cholines

terase Cholinesterase is an enzyme found in the human body. It plays an important role in the regulation of the transmission of signals or messages between the brain and the rest of the body, acting as a neurotransmitter synthesizer. Cholinesterase is involved in the breakdown of acetylcholine, a chemical message or neurotransmitter. A large number of drugs and chemicals, including drugs used to treat Alzheimer's disease, work by inhibiting the activity of Cholinesterase. By blocking the enzyme, these drugs make it easier for acetylcholine to transmit messages. Low levels of Cholinesterase have been linked to diseases such as Alzheimer's, as well as to poisoning from pesticides, insecticides, and nerve gas. For this reason, Cholinesterase is an important biomarker for diagnosis and monitoring of diseases and exposure to toxins.
