Chickens
Chickens are a domesticated species of the bird family, Gallus gallus. They are an important source of food for humans, providing meat, eggs, and feathers, as well as being kept as pets. Chickens have been selectively bred for over 7,000 years, and today are found in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. Chickens have an important role in genetic research, as they are the most genetically diverse and studied of all domestic animals. Chickens are also used for biomedical research, as their immune systems are similar to that of humans. Chickens are also popular in cultural traditions, from backyard and food festivals to religious ceremonies.
