Altered States of Consciousness
Altered states of consciousness (ASC) are experiences that differ from everyday awareness and are associated with changes in psychological and physiological processes. ASC can manifest in a variety of ways, ranging from meditation and hypnosis to sleep and dreams, drug use, and sensory deprivation. These altered states can have both positive and negative effects, with research pointing to potential therapeutic benefits for various mental and physical conditions. In addition, ASC can provide insights into the nature of consciousness and our understanding of the mind and body.
