Tocolytics
Tocolytics are drugs used to delay premature labor and promote pregnancy. They work by slowing down or halting uterine contractions and can be used to improve the prospects of a healthy delivery. As tocolytics are commonly given in the preterm stages of pregnancy, their effectiveness and safety in the full-term stages is yet to be determined. The use of tocolytics is growing in popularity due to their potential to improve fetal and maternal outcomes. They have been shown to decrease the risk of early labor and decrease the need for assisted delivery or cesarean sections. In addition, tocolytics can reduce the risk of preterm delivery, improve fetal lung maturity, and reduce the risk of neonatal infections. As a result, tocolytics are becoming increasingly important in the management of high-risk pregnancies.
