Pathophysiology

Pathophysiology is a branch of medical science that focuses on the study of abnormal physiological functions that occur as a result of disease or injury. It is concerned with how disease or injury lead to changes in the structure and functions of body organs and how those changes cause symptoms and influence the response to treatment. Pathophysiology helps explain the cause and progression of diseases and helps healthcare professionals develop targeted interventions to prevent, diagnose and treat them. Pathophysiology is important in understanding the clinical signs and symptoms of disease, as well as how diseases can be prevented or managed through lifestyle changes, medication and/or surgery.
