Epidemiology

Epidemiology is the study of the incidence, distribution, and control of diseases and other conditions in populations. It is a vital public health science for understanding the causes of health and disease in human populations, detecting risk factors for disease and injury, and developing prevention strategies to promote health and prevent and control disease. Epidemiological research is used to develop strategies to prevent or reduce the spread of diseases and to assess the effectiveness of existing programs. Through epidemiological studies, researchers can identify risk factors and develop interventions that reduce disease incidence, including public health policies and public health interventions. Epidemiology also informs public health efforts to identify and target interventions that improve population health.
