Drug Targeting
Drug targeting is a strategy for targeting and delivering a drug to a specific organ, tissue, or cell type within a organism. It uses a variety of techniques such as carrier proteins, ligands, DNA, and nanoparticles to ensure the drug is delivered to the specific location or cell type. The technique is beneficial because it increases the efficiency of delivery and accuracy of therapy, as well as reduces the risk of side effects or toxicity. Drug targeting is used in a variety of medical treatments, such as cancer chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and gene therapy. It is also used to enhance nutrient absorption, reduce the toxicity of the drug, and improve the accuracy of drug delivery.
