Transgender Woman

A transgender woman is an individual who was assigned male at birth, but whose gender identity is female. Transgender women have a unique experience and are a community of people who are often marginalized and discriminated against. However, they are increasingly being accepted and embraced in society. Transgender women have many unique experiences with healthcare, social services, employment, and education that are not typically experienced by cisgender (non-transgender) people, and they can be powerful advocates and educators in their communities. Transgender women often face barriers to healthcare, including lack of access and, in some cases, discrimination by healthcare providers. They are also at an increased risk for mental health issues and suicide as a result of this discrimination. Transgender women are powerful allies in the fight for gender equality and should be celebrated for their courage and resilience.
