Cystectomy

A cystectomy is the surgical removal of a cyst, which is an abnormal, fluid-filled sac or lump. In the case of a urinary tract cystectomy, one or both kidneys and/or the bladder may be removed. This procedure may be necessary to treat cysts or tumors that are at risk of growing or spreading, or to treat bladder cancer or non-cancerous enlargement of the bladder. It is an effective treatment for preventing further complications arising from cysts or tumors. Although a cystectomy is a major surgical procedure, it can be performed safely and has a good success rate.
