Food Systems
Food systems are the process of producing, distributing and consuming food. They are a complex web of actors and activities, connecting farmers to consumers and encompassing all the stages of food production, from soil and water management, to harvesting, packaging, transport and waste management. Food systems play a critical role in providing access to safe, nutritious and affordable food, while contributing to social and economic development, environmental management and climate change mitigation. As a result, they have a significant impact on public health, food security and sustainable development. Food systems have multiple uses, including ensuring a continuous supply of food to meet increasing global demand, promoting sustainable agricultural practices and reducing the environmental footprint of food production. Additionally, they are important for creating income opportunities, supporting rural development and promoting biodiversity.
