Food Processing
Food processing is the technique of transforming raw ingredients into food and food products. It includes a multitude of activities such as grinding, chopping, blending, freezing and cooking. These processes change the physical, chemical and biological properties of food, thus enabling us to preserve, enhance and alter the kind of food we consume. Food processing is important for sustaining a healthy food supply, as it extends shelf life, increases nutrient content and reduces the risk of contamination. Furthermore, it helps to reduce food wastage, enhance food safety and provide a greater variety of affordable and nutritious food and beverages. Food processing also has a positive effect on the economy, as it increases job opportunities, lowers distribution costs and increases incomes.
