Farm Animal Welfare

Farm animal welfare is the practice of providing a humane quality of life for animals that are raised for the production of food and other agriculturally-related products. It has become an important part of modern agriculture, as it seeks to ensure that animals live healthy, comfortable and stress-free lives. This can be accomplished through a variety of practices, such as using appropriate housing and housing management, providing an adequate diet and access to clean water, and appropriate health care and husbandry practices. Through farm animal welfare, not only is animal suffering minimized, but the quality of products derived from animal agriculture is also improved. As such, it is of great importance for animal welfare and for public health, since poor welfare of farmed animals can lead to the spread of disease, antibiotic usage and increased food safety risks.
