Essential Nutrients
Essential nutrients are substances that the body cannot make and must be obtained from food or dietary supplements. These nutrients are essential for growth and maintenance of normal body functions. Examples of essential nutrients are vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. They provide the body with the energy and material it needs to develop, grow, replenish, and repair itself, as well as to fight diseases. A balanced diet that includes a variety of these essential nutrients is important for healthy functioning. Deficiencies in essential nutrients can lead to serious health issues such as stunted growth, anemia, impaired organ function, and weakened immunity.
