Contour Ploughing

Contour ploughing is a farming technique used to reduce soil erosion and improve water retention on sloped land. The process involves following the contours of the land when ploughing, creating furrows in lines that run parallel to the slope of the land. This prevents water from washing away the soil, protecting the land from erosion, and helping to store water in the soil. The technique ultimately increases the amount and quality of crops that can be grown on land with a slope. It also helps to reduce runoff and sedimentation, and can reduce the need for water retention ponds and terraces. Contour ploughing is an important tool for sustainable land management in agricultural landscapes.
