Agroecology
Agroecology is a scientific discipline that studies the sustainable use of agricultural ecosystems. It uses principles from ecology, economics, social science, and engineering to develop sustainable and efficient farming practices. Agroecology focuses on the interactions between plants, animals, soil, and the environment in order to improve the overall sustainability of agricultural systems and increase food production. Agroecology also seeks to limit the effects of pesticides, herbicides, and synthetic fertilizers on both the environment and local populations. Agroecology is increasingly recognized as an important tool to help overcome food insecurity in regions facing challenges such as poverty, natural resource degradation, and climate change. It has proven effective in improving the yields and livelihoods of smallholder farmers, while reducing the environmental impacts associated with intensive farming.
