Genito-urinary Medicine
Genito-urinary medicine is a specialized branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the reproductive and urinary systems. This field also includes the management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Family medicine practitioners provide a range of genito-urinary services including screening for STIs, providing contraception advice, performing cervical smears, and addressing infertility and sexual health issues. They are also trained to provide non-judgemental and confidential care for patients experiencing gender identity or sexual orientation-related concerns. In addition to providing primary care services, family medicine practitioners also work collaboratively with specialists in the field of genito-urinary medicine to manage complex cases. Patients with STIs, for instance, may be referred to a specialist for further treatment while family medicine practitioners provide support and follow-up care.
