Veterinary Toxicology

Veterinary toxicology is a field of medicine which focuses on the identification, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of illness caused by toxins and other hazardous substances. It is important for the health of animals and humans alike, as toxins can be found in both human and animal products. Veterinary toxicologists investigate and assess the potential risks posed by these toxins and develop strategies to reduce or eliminate their adverse effects. Veterinary toxicologists also work to educate animal owners on the importance of preventive care, proper handling of chemicals and proper use of drugs and vaccines. Additionally, they may advise veterinarians on specific courses of treatment for illnesses caused by toxins. Through their investigations, veterinarians can help to identify and protect animals from toxic exposure, and can also inform public health policy and legislation. Veterinary toxicology is an important and necessary field for the safety and well-being of animals, humans and the environment.
