Toxicology

Toxicology is the scientific study of the adverse effects of chemicals, biological agents, and physical agents on living organisms. Toxicology is a key component of public health policy and practice, as it provides important information about the risks posed by hazardous substances. The goal of toxicology is to identify toxicants that may be harmful to humans and other animals, as well as environmental and ecological systems. Toxicologists use a range of scientific techniques, such as laboratory testing, epidemiological studies, and mathematical modeling, to assess potential hazards and to inform the development of risk management strategies. Toxicology is a valuable tool for the prevention and control of environmental and occupational hazards, as well as for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases caused by exposure to toxic agents.
