Skin Toxicology

Skin toxicology is a branch of toxicology which is concerned with the effects of agents, such as chemicals and radiation, on the skin. It is an important area of research as the skin is the largest organ of our body and so any toxic agent is likely to have an effect on it. Skin toxicology studies the mechanisms by which these agents affect the skin and the environment, and how to prevent or minimise the potential damage. The research also helps in developing treatments for skin related diseases, such as dermatitis and psoriasis, and can improve the safety of skincare products and cosmetic treatments. In addition, skin toxicology is also important in devising safety protocols for workers in industries that involve skin contact with hazardous materials, as well as for environmental monitoring programs.
