Respiratory Toxicology
Respiratory toxicology is the study of the effects of pollutants, toxins, and other hazardous compounds on the lungs and airways. Its significance lies in its ability to identify, assess and manage the potential risks associated with exposure to such environmental hazards. Respiratory toxicology is used to develop health-based regulations, standards and policies to protect public health. It also helps in understanding and preventing adverse health effects due to the presence of hazardous substances in the air and further contributes to improving air quality. The importance of this field is highlighted by the fact that over 90% of human exposure to toxic agents is through inhalation.
