Neutropenia

Neutropenia is an abnormally low level of neutrophils, a type of white blood cell in the body. A decrease in these cells makes it difficult for the body to fight off infections. Neutropenia can be caused by many things, such as certain medications, autoimmune diseases, and cancers, and has serious implications if not recognized and treated promptly. Treatment for neutropenia usually consists of increasing the count of the white blood cells and treating any underlying causes. Neutropenia can be a life-threatening condition and it is important to understand the causes and symptoms so that prompt treatment can be pursued.
