Forensic Anthropology
Forensic anthropology is the application of physical anthropology to the legal process. It involves using skeletal remains to identify individual biological characteristics, such as age, sex, and ancestry, as well as to help determine the manner and cause of death. Forensic anthropology is utilized by law enforcement agencies and medical examiners to assist in the investigation of suspicious deaths, to positively identify human remains, and to establish the time since death. The use of biological and forensic science principles makes a powerful contribution to the legal process, providing scientific and objective evidence to help in the investigation of cases.
