Dinoflagellate Toxins

Dinoflagellate toxins are a group of highly toxic compounds produced by dinoflagellate species, a type of unicellular planktonic protists. Dinoflagellate toxins are highly potent and considered to be one of the most toxic compounds known to science. They can cause food poisoning, known as paralytic shellfish poisoning, as well as other health problems. Dinoflagellate toxins are also used in a wide range of scientific and medical applications, such as in medical diagnostics, drug development, and research into the effects of climate change on marine biology. The study of dinoflagellate toxins is important to help us understand their role in the environment and promote safe food practices and protect human health.
