Antioxidant
An antioxidant is a molecule that inhibits the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation is a process of chemical reactions that can produce free radicals, leading to chain reactions that can damage cells. Antioxidants act as “free radical scavengers” and prevent damage to cells caused by oxidative stress. In the body, antioxidants help protect against diseases such as cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer's and other age-related diseases. They can also be found in many food sources, such as fruits and vegetables, and in dietary supplements. Antioxidants are an essential part of a healthy lifestyle, and their use can promote wellbeing and prolonged health.
