Bone Marrow Donation Risks

Bone marrow donation is a procedure in which healthy donor cells are collected and transplanted into a patient to treat certain blood disorders, such as leukemia and certain types of anemia. The procedure carries risks and potential complications, such as infection, nerve damage, and acute and chronic fatigue. The risks of bone marrow donation may be significant and require extensive evaluation prior to the procedure in order to ensure the donor and patient safety. Despite the risks, however, bone marrow donation can be a lifesaving procedure, providing a new chance at life for those with blood disorders.
