Bone Marrow Biopsy
A bone marrow biopsy is a procedure used to collect a sample of bone marrow from the back of a person's hip or breastbone for laboratory testing. It is used to diagnose and monitor various types of cancers and other diseases that affect the bone marrow (e.g. aplastic anemia, lymphoma, leukemia, multiple myeloma). The biopsy is a critical part of the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases and is used to help determine the best course of treatment. Bone marrow biopsy is a safe and relatively low-risk procedure, and it is an important tool in improving patient outcomes.
