Virions
Virions are infectious particles composed of genetic material, usually DNA or RNA, surrounded by a protective coating of protein and/or lipids. They are the basis of many viruses, which rely on them to spread their genetic material to host cells. Virions are significant because with their infectivity and diversity, they are able to cause a wide range of diseases or symptoms in humans, plants, and animals. Virions are also essential to the functioning of certain biological processes such as the transfer of genetic material, gene regulation, and protein synthesis. In addition, they are being studied as potential tools for gene therapy, diagnostics, and vaccines.
