Reefs
Reefs are one of the most diverse and important ecosystems on Earth. They are made up of calcium carbonate structures created by colonies of coral and other marine organisms. These structures provide habitats for thousands of other species, and they are crucial for the health of our oceans. Reefs also protect coastlines from storms, floods, and erosion. As a result, they play an important role in protecting coastal communities from extreme weather. They also provide essential economic opportunities for those who depend on fishing, tourism, and related activities. In addition, the immense biodiversity found within reefs helps to maintain the balance of life in the oceans and contributes to the global economy.
