Productivity Ecology

Productivity ecology is the study of how productivity of an ecosystem is affected by its environment and the interactions of its components. It is an interdisciplinary field that marries the sciences of ecology, economics, and engineering in order to discuss the overall health of an ecosystem and the productivity of its species. Productivity ecology studies various productivity indices such as biomass, nutrient recycling, and energy flow in an ecosystem in order to predict the impacts of human activities. Its findings can help devise strategies to improve the management of ecosystems, as well as inform policy decisions at the local and global levels.
