Population Genetics
Population genetics is a field of study that involves the analysis of genetic variation in populations of organisms. It is a key element in evolutionary biology and conservation biology, as it provides insight into the diversity, structure and distribution of genetic material in populations. Population genetics is used to understand the effects of natural selection on the gene pool of a given species, the genetic structure of populations, the effects of gene flow, and the effects of genetic drift — all of which have an impact on the evolution of a species. It can also provide information on the health of endangered species, as well as be used to inform conservation efforts.
