Pliocene Epoch
The Pliocene Epoch was a period of time from approximately 5.3 to 2.6 million years ago. The Pliocene has been identified as an important time in the Earth's history when modern animals and plants first appeared and when global climates began to cool and stabilize. During this Epoch, the Earth's landmasses shifted and the continents were in their modern positions. The Pliocene is significant because it laid the foundation for the development of the world's current environment and ecosystems. Additionally, many modern species evolved during this period, including humans. Archaeological and fossil records have allowed for a better understanding of the environment and the flora and fauna present during the Pliocene. This, in turn, has allowed us to gain an increased understanding of the history of the Earth's climate change.
