Pleistocene Epoch

The Pleistocene Epoch was the most recent glacial period. It spanned from about 2.5 million to 11,700 years ago and is most known for its large mammals such as mammoths, saber-toothed cats, and woolly rhinoceroses. During this epoch, sea levels significantly dropped, resulting in vast land bridges. This allowed humans to travel freely, playing a pivotal role in the early human migration. The Pleistocene was an integral part of the Quaternary period and had a significant impact on the evolution of the planet, its geology, climate, and biodiversity. It is the most recent major time period of global cooling and is an invaluable resource in studying climate change.
